The use of video games have been controversial ever since they made their debut decades ago. There have been numerous studies done that have confirmed that the use of video games can cause attention problems and make it harder for children to learn. There are many video game developers who are realizing that education is important and that many school-aged children spend a considerable amount of time playing these games. Additionally, there are many teachers today that use video games as a part of interactive learning. More often than not, people tend to look at all of the negative consequences of playing video games. However, there are advantages to using video games as learning tools. One of the most obvious advantages is it makes learning more fun and interesting.
One of the main reasons why children fail to learn what they need is that they find the lessons boring. It can be very hard for school-aged children to sit for hours and listen at a teacher lecture. Educators say that the primary purpose of going to school is to get an education, but that does not mean that one cannot have fun while doing it. Interactive video games make learning fun because they get the child involved in the lesson. Some children are kinetic learners, which mean they have to touch and actually be engaged in a lesson to learn it. Video games can be especially beneficial for those children.
In fact, there have been many studies done to prove that many children think that they would do better if they had video games in the classroom. One study showed that over half of children feel that they would learn better if there were video games in the classroom. Eleven percent of the teachers surveyed said that they use video games as part of the curriculum.
